Visit the fundraising page at

The Meiklejohn PTA is hosting our third annual ROAR Run! The ROAR Run will take place on Friday, April 19, 2024 with a rain date of Monday, April 22, 2024. This is our school community’s biggest fundraiser. Each student will run as many laps as they can in 30 minutes to help raise money for Meiklejohn. Each lap is 1/16th of a mile. The average student will run 30 laps. Students will be given a bracelet for each lap they complete to help us tally laps at the end of the event. Donations can be made per lap or as a flat amount from now until Friday, April 26th.

Below is a tentative schedule of times the classes will run, so you can mark your calendar to come cheer everyone on.

  • 8:15am – 5th Grade
  • 9:00am – 4th Grade
  • 9:45am – Kindergarten
  • 10:30am – 3rd grade
  • 12:30pm – Preschool
  • 1:00pm – 1st Grade
  • 1:45pm – 2nd Grade

Fundraising Goal. The ROAR Run is how the PTA raises most of the money we donate back to Meiklejohn. PTA volunteers run the event, as opposed to an outside company, so that all funds raised go directly to the school. Our fundraising goal for this year is $60,000. These funds will be used to pay for additional paraprofessional hours, instructional materials, grade-level budgets for classroom materials, staff professional learning/trainings, and technology updates. Did you know that over 90% of the annual school budget is used to pay our current teachers and support staff, and that only includes a very limited number of paraprofessional hours? By helping to cover additional paraprofessional hours and instructional/classroom resources, your donations will enable more of the school budget to go to much-needed, additional staff resources to support mental health, STEAM and learning intervention next year. These funds are so valuable to our beloved school and maintaining and adding more support resources directly benefits all our students.

ROAR Run Fan Pack. Parents and family members are invited to come cheer on your student during the event! We are selling a fun ROAR Run Fan pack for $10. The pack will include a Meiklejohn cowbell and 2 pom poms. Supplies are limited, so order early. If purchased by April 17th, the fan pack will go home with your student on April 18th, otherwise it will be available to pick up on the field at the ROAR Run. All profits will be donated to the school. You can place your order at the Meiklejohn PTA store here:

Volunteer Opportunities. PTA volunteers run the event, as opposed to an outside company, so that all funds raised go directly to the school. We are looking for several parent volunteers to help support the PTA on the day of the run (e.g., set up, counting laps, etc.). You can sign up to volunteer here:

Volunteers Needed

As a reminder, there is still time to sign up for various volunteer opportunities here at the school. Please find more information on some of these opportunities below.

Crossing Guards: We are in need of crossing guards to assist our families and children getting to and from school safely. With the addition of preschool classrooms and decreased bus routes, there is even more traffic around the school. Dates and hours vary to accommodate different schedules. CLICK HERE to sign up, go to and scroll toward the bottom of the page. Once you’ve signed up, a member of the PTA will reach out to discuss days/times that work for you. This position is open to family members, friends and even neighbors!

Room Parents: We are looking for two lead room parents and several helpers for each classroom this year to help plan classroom parties and support our teachers with other classroom needs. With all of the things expected from our teachers, they really appreciate the extra help! The “lead” room parents will communicate with the teacher and coordinate the efforts with the other room parents. If you want to support multiple teachers, please sign up separately for each classroom. Please sign up HERE by September 1st

Mileage Club: Mileage Club is back! This is a fun, energetic program offered to ALL kids in grades K-5 during lunch recess. Mileage Club will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, weather dependent, September 7th through November 9th from 11:25 AM – 1:15 PM. Parent volunteers are needed to punch cards as the kids complete their laps and hand out charms once the cards are full. We meet at the pavilion at Beeman Park and need 6 to 8 volunteers at a minimum or the day will be canceled. Sign up for a full shift or come just for an hour – please indicate in the comment section

Other Volunteer Needs: Whether you prefer to volunteer during school hours or help with items at home in your spare time, there are lots of flexible positions available. Volunteering is a great way to meet other families while supporting our amazing Meiklejohn community. We still have lots of openings to help out with staff appreciation, fundraising, community events and student programs. Here is the link to sign up. If you are not sure what volunteer opportunity is best and willing to help out where needed, please consider signing up as a General Volunteer. Our volunteer coordinator will reach out and help to find the perfect fit. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up!
